In a word, yes!

Electives are an important part of your degree program and can help provide you with a well-rounded education. They can also:

  • Add a bit of fun, balance and a mental break in an otherwise busy schedule.

Stimulate your brain! Choosing courses that really interest you can provide the academic break you’re looking for and help you stay motivated to learn.

  • Lead to a minor or major.

Enhance your degree and strengthen your resume. Choosing courses that are focused in one discipline can demonstrate to future employers that you have an interest, skills and expertise in a specific area.

  • Entice you to explore new fields of study.

Expand your general knowledge and understanding of the world around you. Choosing courses from other faculties and departments can help you gain insight and give a new perspective into things you may not have considered before.

  • Help build your skills.

Prepare for life after university. Choosing courses that help you develop practical skills can open the doors to a wide variety of professions.

  • Improve your GPA.

Ease a heavy course load. Choosing courses with lighter academic requirements can give you the credit you need while helping you maintain your grades during a tough term.

Stay on track for graduation!
