Luke Antoniello has officially signed with the UNB Saint John Seawolves Men’s soccer team for the 2023 varsity season.

Antoniello offers a lot both on and off the pitch. An honour-roll student at Banting Memorial High School, Antoniello hails from Alliston, Ontario, where he served as captain for his school’s soccer team as a senior while also capturing MVP honours.

“Soccer has been a consistent part of my life and has helped me develop into the person I am today,” Antoniello said after signing with the Seawolves. “I chose UNB Saint John because I frequently visit the area to see my family. The history, culture and atmosphere really attracted me to the area. I also appreciate the style of East Coast soccer that UNB Saint John plays.”

Seawolves head coach PJ Ward spotted Antoniello at an identification camp at UNB Fredericton. As Ward watched and scouted the young player, several key qualities were evident and made an impression.
“I liked his ability to read the game and always play one step ahead of the opposition, and I appreciated his passing ability and consistency throughout the game,” Ward said. “Luke will be bringing his vision to the midfield, and he’ll help us control the midfield throughout the game and find ways to break down the opposing team.”
Antoniello brings a straightforward and businesslike approach to the Seawolves. His goals for the upcoming season are “to help the team succeed and achieve the goals set out by Coach PJ.”

When Antoniello isn’t practicing or playing on the pitch, he’ll be working on his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He hopes his path eventually leads to writing opportunities as an author and/or in a teaching capacity.
While Antoniello is committed to continuing his success as a student-athlete, he often pauses to remember the man who helped him reach this point.
“My father is my biggest role model as he has helped me to become the best version of myself,” said Antoniello.

Welcome to the Seawolves Family, Luke!
