Cameron Willis has officially signed with the Seawolves Men’s Volleyball team for the 2022-2023 varsity season.

CW

Cameron is from Fredericton, New Brunswick, and is part of the graduating class of 2022 for Leo Hayes High School. Cameron was able to build an impressive volleyball resume over the last couple of years. He received MVP in 2021 and 2022 for his high school team and was able to lead his team to winning a provincial banner. Cameron also played for the Spartan Volleyball Club in Fredericton.

Cameron possesses a great passion for volleyball as he enjoys the competitiveness and the community connections it comes with. His competitive drive and determination helped him become a great volleyball player. His goals for the season are to improve as a player and contribute to the team’s success. He also hopes to bring in his mamba mentality and work ethic just like his role model Kobe Bryant.

“I love the skill development, the continuous learning and personal growth associated with team sports.”

Cameron gravitated towards UNB Saint John because he heard great things about the community and the Business program. It also helped that he has old teammates that currently play for the Seawolves which will spark up the court connection they used to have. Cameron will be taking Business Administration and plans to enter the business field once he graduates.

Cameron was discovered through the Spartan Volleyball Club where head coach Dino Karatzios had the chance to watch him play. The Seawolves team already has many players that came from the Spartan Volleyball Club which indicates that Cameron is coming from a good program.

“His coach, Mike Gallagher, spoke very highly of him and he mentioned that we should speak to him”

Cameron made a great first impression, he stands at a tall 6’5” but, despite being that tall he still has an incredible amount of speed. Cameron can move very effortlessly on the block which is something that is much needed as a middle blocker. His pure dominance on offence and defense isn’t something that went unnoticed.

“He establishes his presence by being loud and has no problem dominating the net”

Coach Karatzios has great expectations for Cameron for this upcoming season.

“Cameron brings a quality that we were looking for with our middle roster, and that was speed.  He will probably be our fastest middle and has incredible potential due to his height and vertical reach.   Because of his experience with Spartans, he has the ability to contribute to our team in a very short amount of time.”

Welcome to the Seawolves family Cameron!
