Due to a rapid increase in the amount of phishing emails and infected attachments, UNB has moved to block .rtf files, a format used by cybercriminals, on incoming emails to UNB. An alert from Health Canada recently came out issuing recalls on a number of Christmas Lights with serious issues, such as overheating and fire hazards. New phishing scam making waves at UNB pretending to be a faculty member

On Thursday, November 5, ITS experienced a construction-related incident in our main data centre which cut off power to our entire IT infrastructure. 15 tons of E-Waste recycled by UNBSJ since 2010

Since November 2010, UNBSJ has been partnered with Atlantic E-Waste Solutions (AES) and recycled approximately 15 tons of computer equipment from the UNB Saint John campus. It’s the new budget year which means UNB is buying new tech gear! She spends most of her time bossing her owners around. They can never leave the food bowl empty. Cheech is a yellow long hair cat who still thinks she is a kitten. Only big guys can lift heavy things, right? Tracy says not! At 5'3" and 125 lbs, she recently set two new personal weight lifting records. Just yesterday, Tracy deadlifted 270 lbs and back in November she pulled off a 200 lb back squat. Compare this to when she started training at CrossFit Fredericton about two years ago and was barely able to deadlift 165 lbs and squat 95 lbs, even after 15 years of 'doing weights' at the UNB gym. You will be happy to read that the price of coffee has dropped to 45 cents a cup (milk for tea remains unchanged at 15 cents). Congratulations go out to Rob Faulkner’s (help desk) wife, Lianne, whose curling team has “swept” away the competition. They were undefeated in last week’s provincial tournament, earning them the title of Team NB. This is the third time Lianne has been on Team NB. In 2005, her team won the National Championship and represented Canada in the World Junior championship in Pinerolo, Italy. They finished with a bronze medal. Dave Kell’s two dogs, Howie (a 10-month old dachshund) and Roxie (a 2 year old Shetland sheep dog) are the most recent additions to his family. Just looking at them you can tell their personalities are quite different. The seasonal flu clinic scheduled for tomorrow (Friday, October 23), has been cancelled, as the vaccine is unavailable at this time. However, if you are in the high risk category for influenza or live with someone who is at high risk, you can still get a flu shot free of charge from the Student Health Centre.
