Hacker on a computerOver the past few days UNB’s IT security team has noticed a significant increase in emails with ransomware malware being sent to UNB in the form of Microsoft Excel and Word attachments.

The UNB community is reminded to be careful when opening any files sent by email, including Office documents, and to continue to send suspicious emails to helpdesk@unb.ca if concerned or unsure of the validity of an email or its attachments.

Several other Canadian universities have experienced sophisticated ransomware attacks this week and the UNB community should remain watchful.
