Don’t forget to take out the trash!

trashDid you know? Just because you delete a file from a computer doesn’t mean it’s gone for good. Depending on the computer, the files you delete may just be moved over to the trash or recycle bin. This can be extremely helpful because it means you can easily retrieve files you may have deleted by accident. On the flip side, however, it also means that someone could easily riffle through your trash and snatch up your deleted files if the computer fell into the wrong hands. For this reason, whenever you delete a file that contains personal information like credit card numbers, passwords or sensitive information from your workplace, make sure you delete it from your trash or recycle bin as well. That way any information you really want deleted will stay that way.

  1. It should be noted that even deleting the trash doesn’t always delete the file when using MacOS X Lion… While this is a “feature” rather than a bug, it is something for Lion users to be aware of!!!
