The University of New Brunswick and NB Power are proud to announce a strategic partnership supporting energy innovation, research and workforce development in New Brunswick. This partnership model is designed to deliver shared value for both organizations while fostering regular engagement that makes it easy to identify and act on new opportunities.

This multifaceted partnership builds on decades of collaboration, combining active engagement with major research initiatives that shape New Brunswick’s energy infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

Together, UNB and NB Power have advanced projects such as the Atlantic Digital Grid, Mactaquac Aquaculture Ecosystem studies and nuclear energy research. The partnership also supports investment in innovation through the NB Power Industrial Research Chair in Smart Grid Technologies, housed within the Emera and NB Power Research Centre for Smart Grid Technologies.

“Our partnership with NB Power demonstrates the power of collaboration in driving innovation and preparing the next generation of leaders.” said Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle, UNB’s president and vice chancellor. “This strategic partnership enhances UNB’s commitment to advancing research that strengthens New Brunswick’s energy future while creating meaningful learning opportunities for our students.”

As UNB’s largest co-op employer, NB Power has provided over 500 four-month work terms in the last eight years, opening its doors to students in support of experiential education and work-integrated learning. NB Power also enhances student learning by supporting tours, guest lectures and other education enrichment initiatives. The strategic partnership will continue to support the crucial talent pipeline keeping skilled graduates working here at home for New Brunswick’s power utility.

“We are extremely lucky to have such a high caliber university in our province. UNB is dedicated to developing top talent that we are interested in employing at NB Power. The very foundation of New Brunswick’s energy system is built through collaboration and partnership,” said Lori Clark, President and CEO of NB Power. “Together we are exploring innovative technologies and workforce development strategies that will continue to help us deliver reliable, affordable, and clean energy to New Brunswickers for generations to come.”
