The University of New Brunswick in Saint John and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) have announced the relaunch of the campus’s Whitebone Lounge as the Whitebone Pizzeria following an extensive refurbishment.

The new pizzeria-style eatery will open in the Thomas J. Condon Student Centre in the coming months, located in the space which was previously the Whitebone Lounge conference room and the Colonel Tucker's Bar, which has been remodelled into one large, open-plan space.

“We’re really excited to be able to share the new space with the UNB community,” says Patrick Hickey, president of the SRC. “Students and the SRC have been key in this project by helping with the design and providing funding.”

The new space includes a pizza oven at its centre and will provide a larger, cohesive space for students to gather.

“It’s going to be a great area for students to socialize and unwind after class and I’m hoping that everyone has a chance to go and try it out when it opens, and in the fall,” adds Hickey.

“I’m delighted to be able to announce the relaunch of the Whitebone Lounge as the Whitebone Pizzeria,” says Dr. Petra Hauf, vice-president Saint John. “The SRC and UNB have been working closely to keep this project moving forward over the last 12 months despite challenges due to the global pandemic and I would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication.

“We wanted to create a space that was fun and inviting to encourage our community to come together and spend more time on campus after they’ve finished studying. I hope when the pizzeria opens in a few months’ time that students will be as delighted as we are with it.”
