UNB’s Dr. Ryan Hamilton, associate professor of psychology and UNB Alumnus (BA’00, MScExSS’03, PhD’11), played his part in the Tampa Bay Lightning winning the 2020 Stanley Cup on Sept. 28.

Dr. Hamilton is a faculty member at UNB Fredericton and serves as sports psychologist for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He joined the Lightning for their on-ice celebrations at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

As an applied sports psychologist, Dr. Hamilton is focused on the application of psychology to sport and exercise performance. At the elite level, pressure can crack anyone. Dr. Hamilton’s role centres on keeping players and staff focused, relaxed and confident in their abilities.

He’s worked with sports organizations across the continent, including Hockey Canada. In 2018 and 2020, Dr. Hamilton helped the national men’s junior team win gold at the IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., and Ostrava, Czech Republic, respectively.

Congratulations to Dr. Hamilton on his success.
