The University of New Brunswick is proud to be hosting SHAD Valley and some of Canada’s brightest minds, in grades 10, 11 and 12. The participants arrived July 5 and will be here until July 31, to learn explore and experience all that UNB and the city of Fredericton have to offer.

Shad Valley is a four-week enrichment program for exceptional high school students. Program highlights include labs and workshops offered by all science departments, a business and entrepreneurship competition in which successful student teams have the opportunity to compete against teams at other host campuses and the popular robotics competition.

Over the course of a week, teams of SHAD students construct robots, with assistance of faculty members, staff and graduate students. The robots are then programmed to operate autonomously. For many students, the robotics competition is the highlight of their Shad Valley experience.

This year’s robotics competition will be held Friday, July 17, at 9:15-1p.m. This is UNB’s 31 year hosting the 35-year-old Shad Valley program.

SHAD is dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technological capabilities of youth, integrated with the development of their entrepreneurial spirit. SHAD is an award winning partnership involving twelve host universities as well as hundreds of schools, students, companies and countless other organizations. The program has more than 14,000 alumni across Canada and around the world.
