UNB to host event to remember and honour residential school survivors

Following the recent anniversary of Canada’s statement of apology to former students of residential schools, the University of New Brunswick will hold an event to remember and honour residential school survivors. “Circle of Understanding: Honouring our Residential School Survivors” will take place on Thursday, June 11, at 12 p.m. in Room 143 of Marshall d’Avray Hall, UNB Fredericton.
Being hosted by the Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre at UNB, the community is invited to gather in honour our residential school survivors. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about how Indian residential schools have impacted survivors, families, and communities.
The event will begin with an opening ceremony and prayer, followed by a traditional feast at 12:15 p.m. Following the meal, there will be a showing of the film, “We Carry Each Other's Memories.” The event will conclude with guest speakers Wayne Nicholas, who is an advocate for residential school survivors; and award winning author and writer, Chris Benjamin.
This is a free public event and everyone is invited to attend.
