This is a free public event. This public presentation will be audio streamed and archived on our YouTube site: http://www.youtube.com/user/UNBFEduc

What does pedagogical documentation give us that we wouldn’t have without it? How does it alter our thinking and our responsiveness to children in both child care and school settings? How is it different from (and similar to) assessment? We will consider how pedagogical documentation supports educators in building stronger relationships with children, families, and communities, using stories of practice from Ontario and Halifax, NS.

Carol Anne Wien is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education, York University, Toronto. She is the author of The Power of Emergent Curriculum, Negotiating Standards in the Primary Classroom, and Developmentally Appropriate Practice in ‘Real Life,’ and editor of Emergent Curriculum in the Primary Classroom: Interpreting the Reggio Emilia Approach in Schools. She is a co-author, with Karyn Callaghan and Jason Avery, of the forthcoming book, Documentation as Relationship: “I am in your eye.”  She has long been a student of the Reggio Emilia experience and a supporter of emergent curriculum, speaking frequently at conferences across Canada and in the USA. She loves the arts -- traces of the creative spirit -- and constantly attempts to build them into daily life.

Join us for a reception following the presentation.

This is the first in a series of three public presentations hosted by the University. Future presenters will include Dr. Jane Hewes who will be speaking on Rethinking Play (Feb 18 and 20) and Anne Haas Dyson  whose topic will be Rewriting the basics, Rethinking literacy pedagogy (Mar 26). All sessions are free of charge.
