The University of New Brunswick is pleased to announce the official launch of its first, university-wide, mobile application for smartphones and tablets.
The UNB app is now available for download in both the Apple iOS store for iPhones and iPads and the Google Play store for Android phones and tablet devices.
The App was made available on Aug. 29 as part of a beta program, and more than 1,800 students, faculty and staff have used it more than 11,500 times. With the help of the university community, ITS has been able to find and fix a number of small issues with the application in order to help improve it ahead of the official launch.
“We’re incredibly pleased with the initial results of our beta launch of the new app,” says Terry Nikkel, Associate Vice-President for Information Technology Services at UNB.
“This new app will benefit students, faculty and staff across all of UNB’s campuses,” says Nikkel.
The UNB app includes features such as access to personal class schedules and a secure UNB phonebook search feature that integrates with the device’s contact information application.
“Our new app is an integral part of the UNB mobile technology strategy, which also includes on-going improvements to our wireless network infrastructure as well an overhaul of the entire university website that was completed this summer,” says Nikkel.
Building on the success of the UNBSJ mobile app launched two years ago, the new UNB app fully-integrates with the university’s core IT systems, enabling seamless access to personal information for students such as class schedules and, later this fall, exam schedules and grades.
Among the most popular features of the new app in its first two weeks were the class schedules, event calendar and campus maps.
“Our team is thrilled to see the new UNB app play a positive role in improving the student experience this fall, particularly for new students coming to university for the first time,” says Nikkel.
