Forty-six students from the Caribbean have been awarded scholarships to complete online certificates at the University of New Brunswick and two other Canadian universities.
The scholarships are funded by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and administered by the Canadian Virtual University (CVU) consortium. Though they may never set foot in Canada, students will interact with Canadian content, professors, and other students via email, Skype, webinars, chats and other online communication tools.

"We are in a digital age that calls for a redefinition of international education," commented Vicky Busch, executive director of CVU. "The virtual scholarship program is evidence that Canada recognizes the potential of its online education sector to expand the benefits of international education to more than only the most wealthy who can afford to travel and live in Canada."

CVU is an association of English and French universities specializing in online and distance education. Collectively, they offer over 300 programs and over 2,000 courses from the certificate to the doctoral level.
