The Eaton Lectures will focus on Canadian military history and stewardship, and are named in honour of former UNB Chancellor Fredrik S. Eaton.

The series kick-off will feature J. Marc Milner, director of UNB's Gregg Centre, who will challenge the concept of remembrance. Dr. Milner is one of Canada’s preeminent scholars of the Second World War and has a reputation as one of Canada’s most influential military historians.

His talk, entitled Beyond Remembrance, will answer the question: What will we make of the great wars of the 20th century when all the veterans are gone? It will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Canadian Forces College in North York, Ontario.

The Eaton Lectures are made possible through the generous support of Fredrik S. Eaton and the Fredrik and Catherine Eaton Charitable Foundation.

A UNB alumnus, Fredrik Eaton served as the university's chancellor from 1993 to 2003. He is the great-grandson of Timothy Eaton, founder of Eaton’s department store. A staunch supporter of UNB, Dr. Eaton holds a bachelor of arts and an honorary doctor of laws degree from UNB.

The Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society at UNB is a national centre of excellence for the study of war and society. For more information on the Gregg Centre and the Eaton Lectures, visit unb.ca/eatonlecture.
