McCain visiting professor to talk about climate change in Antarctica

Bernd Kulessa, Harrison McCain visiting professor, will deliver a public talk entitled Climate, Sea Level and Fast Flow of Polar Ice Masses - Causes and Effects on Wednesday, March 30, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 105 of MacLaggan Hall, UNB Fredericton.
Dr. Kulessa is a senior lecturer in glaciology and geophysics at the College of Science at Swansea University, U.K.
This talk will present the latest scientific understanding and hypotheses, focusing particularly on fast ice flow at the interface between the West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets and the ocean.
In a warming world the fate of the Polar ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland in the 21st century is of great concern. Accelerated melting of the Greenland ice sheet in particular, and dramatic dynamic responses of the West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets have been widely documented in the public media and the scientific world.
If these two ice sheets disintegrated entirely, sea level would rise by more than 10 meters.
