A group of education students celebrated Science and Technology Week by gaining some hands-on experience this weekend.

University of New Brunswick students presented a series of experiments, demonstrations and activities at Science East on Saturday. The goal was to give them a chance to prepare lessons for a multi-age audience about topics they weren't previously familiar with.

Prof. Karen Sullenger said it's an assignment she's given to students in her methods class for the past few years. She said it's always a helpful experience.

"One of the things I try to do in my class ... is to have a realistic experience of what it's like to plan for an audience that's multi-aged," she said. "That's going to simulate what they have in a classroom. They've put together three activities to teach something and a fourth activity for assessment to see if they were successful.

"It's also to get them to think about planning activities that are cohesive, and that will keep the kids engaged. They've been working really hard planning together."
