“The Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering impacted my life in many positive ways.”

Tomas Beran, a 2008 Ph.D. graduate who worked with Prof. Richard Langley, writes “the networks I created during my Ph.D. studies helped me find more than one job and many of them are still lasting for more than a decade.” Tomas states that the jobs took him to many different provinces, countries, and continents, but that he will always enjoy coming back to visit the University of New Brunswick.

Tomas’s professional carrier started in Alberta. This led to work in many different places from Canadian oil fields to the world’s biggest geomatics trade fairs. Tomas says no matter where he was working in the geomatics field, there were always challenges to overcome and problems to be solved.

Tomas is currently working in Germany with a young dynamic satellite navigation company and loves helping customers to solve their complex engineering problems. He says the background in satellite navigation theory he mastered at UNB and the commitment to the engineering profession has helped him in many aspects of his career.
