“The offshore life is difficult, especially as a female. It took hard work to gain respect from others and adapt to the lifestyle of being away for extended periods of time. In the end, it is all worth it, as I look back and see what I've achieved, the lifelong friends I made, and knowing that my work is making a difference in the world.”

Olivia Cormier, a recent 2019 GGE graduate, says GGE opened her eyes to the endless opportunities and possibilities of the world. Olivia stated that her favourite part about this degree is that “there was no course that I wasn't fascinated by.”

Olivia continues with “it was difficult to choose a career path because I wanted to do everything. Never would I have believed that work could be fun, in fact, it barely feels like work at all.”

Since graduation, Olivia has been working in hydrographic surveying. By doing so, Olivia says everyday is a new adventure where she is experiencing things she “never could have predicted.” Hydrographic surveying has brought her the opportunity to see “navy ships live firing, assorted marine life, shooting stars, fighter jets zooming over, and to work with some amazing people.”

“With the direction the energy industry is going, there is a bright future for clean energy. I am proud to be working within the renewable energy sector,” Olivia mentions. She says she didn’t fully realize how much effort and planning went into windfarms until she started working offshore. “Windfarms are a key part of our future and I get to work with experts in the industry where I am continuously learning new things.”
