“My time at GGE really changed my life in a very positive way in the sense that the experiences I learnt from while I was at GGE helped reshape my career.”

Introducing Lawal Adegoke, our next Alumni Spotlight!

Lawal graduated in 2013 and speaks highly of the family atmosphere within our department. The Geomatics Undergraduate Engineering Student Society (GUESS) plays a key role in building our sense of community. GUESS is a student-based organization that oversees social events for GGE students and has a say in how some of the department funding is allocated. Additionally, GUESS can help address concerns brought forth by students to the department.

Lawal says “during my time at GGE I enjoyed meeting people from different parts of the world. Knowing more about the culture, weather, geography, food, and people were very important to me.” Lawal also has very fond memories of a student softball tournament in the summer of 2014. He explains that “social events like this, trips to Crabbe Mountain, potlucks, fall pizza party, and the Christmas party help students get to know each other more, which will especially help in terms of student collaboration and students helping each other out.”

Lawal is now working as a Data Analyst/Engineer at Polaris Digitech which is a geospatial intelligence company in Lagos, Nigeria. Lawal helped in the formation of the data analytics team part of the business development department. In his role as the team lead, he says “we were able to carry out some very valuable and important tasks which in the long run is going to be much more beneficial to the company.”
